'Tis the season of giving! Or so I thought. A common theme I have heard this holiday season is something along the lines of 'We should only help people in this country.' Now it's not usually stated so bluntly but that's exactly what "I don't know why people donate to organizations that just send the money over seas." or "Why volunteer with them they just use send stuff to other countries." Or "We should just help people here."
Now, I'm all for helping those around us, but last I checked a person is a person no matter where they are. By the grace of God or dumb luck, what ever you want to call it, I was born to one of few very fortunate areas. I've never gone hungry or watched a love one die because we couldn't afford medicine. So being one of the very few who have been blessed to be able to help others, why would I discriminate against those who weren't. I'm pretty sure the children born into refuge camps in the middle of the barren desert didn't do much to deserve that. I think there is a mentality to help our own first, or help our own first then others. I am a person so all people are my own. Also, there will ALWAYS be needs right here in the USA or right here in Utah or even right here in Cedar Hills. So if you are waiting for the needs to be filled here before branching out there is going to be a lot of waiting.
So you can judge me for, maybe, collecting donations to help bring a well to an impoverished area in Ethiopia so that hundreds of men, women and children, no longer have to fear the diseases that come from drinking from the polluted stream, but I'm going to sleep pretty well knowing I helped a child of God.Click here to see videos of Xander The Great trying to laugh and having a good 'ol time with auntie Ashley, and Pixie playing with Cloe.
